Is there a way of finding this out on the internet? How to find out if a property for sale is ex - council?
Apply to the Land Registry for Office Copy Entries. These will tell you not only who the current owner is, but also who the original owner was. They make a charge of about 拢4 (don't tick the box where you apply for a plan - you won't need it and it will be an additional 拢4 for something not required). When you get the copies, go to the 'Proprietorship Register' section and look for reference to the original Conveyance which should say who the developer was at the time, and who they sold the property to, i.e. the council.

If your in the area, I would think you would know. Ask the agent if it is ex-local authority.
And to some of the others than answered, not all local authority estates are ';run down, no go areas';! There are more well kept houses, than on private estates.
Also they are usually well built and strong.
you can tell by looking at the wording of the listing usually (purpose-built block is often a giveaway), also, do you seem to be getting an extra bedroom or 2 for the price in that area?
Well if its on a council estate and it looks like a council house, then it probably is one.
Email the estate agent
you would soon se when you visit a house if it is a council estate
look at the houses around it
cant u ask them??? normally u can tell just by looking at the street!
