Dampness in a property for sale?

We have seen a victorian property to buy and was told to us that it had a dampness issue(and could see damp staines on the walls and some where between the joint of the ceiling and wall) and the current landloard is ready to put a damp proof course.

I am not sure to how much this would get fixed and we are concerned whether it would become a headache later.

Some of the other issues were some of the windows were not double glazed (around 7 big windows)and and some of the window frames were roting we should definely be replaced.

Could anyone throw some light as to whether taking a property with dampness issue be a risky investment ?

What would be the cost for replacing windows to double glazed with replacement to the wood on the window frames too?Dampness in a property for sale?
One thing you will regret is getting involved with a house full of mold. I've seen homes have to be torn down because of that stuff. If you see it on the outside walls it is 100 times worse inside. A house can become sick just like we do. So my advise is to leave it alone unless you just want the property and rebuild. If you cannot stop the moisture you will never stop the mold from coming back. Don' do it.Dampness in a property for sale?
If you seen damage inside the house then it has been wet for sometime. Most likely all the areas that show dampness or damage will need to be repaired before you move into it. If there is a water leak causing the dampness like from the roof there will most likely be damage that is hidden that you cannot see until you remove walls and such. If I were considering buying the house I would have it inspected before I purchased it. The inspectors know what to look for and can find things you may not see. The dampness will cause mold and that is a health hazard in its self. I would try and find another house that doesn't have any dampness and stay away from what could very well turn out to be a total remodel or a tear down and rebuild a new home. A total remodel may cost as much or more than a new house. Of course that depends on what kind of new house you might build.
