Old properties for sale in need of serious modernisation..where?

How do i find properties for sale in need of modernisation or serious work.... when i look through estate agents there are only properties that need superficial work.... im looking for something with land, barn or just old building... any advice apart from auctions?Old properties for sale in need of serious modernisation..where?
You'll be lucky to get any answers! People who know where to look keep that sort of thing close to their chests!

In my personal experience local newspapers are good...sometimes there are local properties being advertised in need of complete renovation.

Alternatively if you know which area to look in you could get in touch with the local estate agents - they're always looking for inverstors and cash investors who are 'ready to buy' when something comes in as it means that they'll get their commission earlier if the sale goes through faster.

The local council would also be a good place to ask. You would be surprised at what they own. In the 1960s they all bought up property for road widening schemes that never happened, and now sit on properties that they don't even know they still own. Also you could try the utilities like gas, water, or electricity companies. Find the area you like and if you spot something you like, ask around and see who owns it and if they would sell. If you can't find owner, land registry will help.

Have you tried typing';Properties for Restoration'; in your search engine?
Ride around the area's you are interested in. If there is a board outside then use the number to enquire. If not, the local pub or post office is usually a mine of information about old properties! People LOVE chatting about their own towns and villages and you get to feel what the local life/people would be like.
get out in the car, visit places you like, ask people or visit the farmers if rural.

best way is to go and do some investigative work yourself, use the shoe leather and don`t be afraid to ask!
